Trump's one-on-one talks with Putin to include election meddling, ambassador says

Ahead of the NATO Summit in Brussels next week, President Donald Trump has said he would ask NATO members to start paying their bills as the United States is not going to take care of everything.

Trump has expressed scorn for the alliance and is expected to upbraid European NATO members for not spending enough on their own defense.

Kay Bailey Hutchison, the USA representative to NATO, said the major theme of the NATO summit would be the trans-Atlantic alliance's "strength and unity", despite repeated criticisms by Trump of alliance members who have yet to meet a commitment to boost their defense spending. "The United States is not going to take care of everything, '" Trump told his supporters in Montana, broadcast live on CSPAN. "It helps them a lot more than it helps us, we're very far away".

"They make it impossible to do business in Europe", Trump insisted at his rally.

Trump once again claimed the US had a trade deficit of $151 billion with the European Union-a figure that is around $50 billion greater than his own administration's statistics, which include services as well as goods. They kill us on other things. "And maybe your next big challenge is European citizens will need to work out who do they best feel protected by", the politician told EU bureaucrats.

"Everyone in our alliance has the same goal, and that is a strong deterrent; an alliance that is unified that can face any threats that any one of our 29 members might face", she said, listing "Russia and the malign activities of Russian Federation, the efforts of Russian Federation to divide our Democratic nations" and INF treaty violations as among those threats.

Partners will be able to lease Amazon-branded delivery trucks and buy discounted fuel and insurance through the company. However, an Amazon SVP told CNBC that this new program shouldn't damage the company's relationship with core providers.

Other than with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Trump has no other bilateral meetings scheduled.

The president has frequently complained that North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies - especially Germany - should contribute more toward their own defense, and he has a strained relationship with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

He said conversations "on election meddling, on Ukraine, on Syria" have happened "through diplomatic channels, but there hasn't been a full airing of the issues in our bilateral relationship that really matter most to global stability". Why not? When you started talking, it went like a rocket ship.

President Donald Trump and his USA delegation intend to raise the issues of arms control, Ukraine, Syria and election meddling during their meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a senior administration told reporters Thursday.

"The president's priority is to protect the American people and American interests, including those of our allies and partners", he said.
