Captain Harry Kane Proud Of England's Persistence

Captain Harry Kane Proud Of England's Persistence

After Belgium thrashed Panama 3-0 in the other Group G game on Monday, the pressure was on England to deliver only their second win in their last nine games at World Cups.

"Moment of the Day (18 June) England football team captain Harry Kane scored twice including a stoppage-time victor as he led his side to a last-gasp 2-1 win over Tunisia in their opening FIFA World Cup match".

However, with the game about to enter injury time and England heading for an all too familiar disappointing result to open their account at a major tournament, Kane once again made the difference when he headed home from a few yards out.

TRT World's Lance Santos has more.

It was relief for Kane and Gareth Southgate, who leapt into the air in delight as his World Cup debut as a coach got off to a winning start.

Harry Kane had given the Three Lions the lead when he got on the end of a rebound while the Tunisians were awarded a penalty after a Kyle Walker infraction.

"It was him who was always there at the right time". "The spaces that were created by Kane were very scary to us".

"They started out brilliant and looked fantastic, but as the game wore on, they took a step backwards".

England will face Panama next at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Sunday.

Is LeBron James ‘Definitely’ Headed to The Lakers?
For now, Jackson is hesitant to say the Lakers will contend in the Western Conference even if they sign James. With less than three weeks to go until the start of free agency, the rumor mill is beginning to heat up.

Before Tunisia drew level, England repeatedly broke with pace at a nervy-looking defence, with Kieran Trippier's presence on the wide right providing a particularly potent outlet that should have garnered more reward.

But Gareth Southgate's men did not have everything their own way despite going ahead in the 11th minute.

But England were otherwise let down by a lack of composure in front of goal on a hot night on the banks of the Volga river, with many players bothered by clouds of gnats.

A cricket score had looked on the cards early on as England ran the North Africans ragged.

"In a World Cup, you're never sure how it's going to go and in recent years the first games have always been hard". But England struggled to finish it off.

England should have had three or four more in the opening half-hour as they laid siege to the Tunisian goal but chances were spurned either through lucky saves or poor finishing, notably by Jesse Lingard, who got his legs in a tangle with the goal at his mercy.

Kane then stepped up in the final moments of the game, to head in a powerful shot from a sublime pass from Harry Maguire to seal a 2-1 win from the Three Lions.

"It's a massive boost, a massive bonus, we kept going".
