Nottingham Open: Barty beats Konta in final

Johanna Konta overcame a rain delay to secure her place in the final of the Nature Valley Open in Nottingham for the second successive year with a 6-2 6-3 victory against Donna Vekic.

Johanna Konta has failed to shake the umpire's hand after a bad-tempered end to the Nottingham Open final won by Australian Ashleigh Barty winning.

Britain's Johanna Konta won through to her first semifinal since Wimbledon past year with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Dalila Jakupovic in the WTA tour event in Nottingham-a warm-up for the lone grass-court Grand Slam.

This time, the British No. 1 breezed through the opening set.

But she saved the crucial break point and then wrestled the second set away from Barty with three consecutive games to force a decider.

"It is never easy with a rain delay, so I am very happy to have battled through, to keep my mind on the task at hand and do the best I can with the conditions".

The top-seeded Ashleigh Barty awaits in Sunday's final after the Australian beat Naomi Osaka of Japan 6-3 6-4. She was able to get the better of Kurumi Nara, Heather Watson and Dalila Jakupović on her way to setting up this semi-final encounter.

At the start of the second set Barty began to show some vulnerability on serve and was forced to save five break points in her first service games. "I'm pretty pleased with that".

"Barty is a very talented, very crafty player", Konta said.

As for her opponent, Vekić has of course caused problems for Konta in the past. She loves this surface, she's very vocal about loving this surface.

The Croat is playing her 20th overall semifinal and is now 17-3.

"That's a great challenge for me, to play someone who's so in form".

Barty, who is into her second final of the year after losing in January to former world No.1 Angelique Kerber in Sydney, added: "I lost to Jo here (Nottingham) last year, so I think I can go in and play some pretty free tennis".
