Jorge Linares vows to stop Vasiliy Lomachenko express

But this fight was not like every other bout.

When the stoppage came in the tenth one judge had Linares ahead whilst another had the fight level.

Lomachenko, 30, was leading 86-84 on one scorecard at the time of the stoppage and trailing by the same score on a second.

"Linares is a great champion, and the fight was good for the fans and everybody", agreed Lomachenko after the fight. The champ then launched a short, sweet lead right hand to the chin of Lomachenko, who landed on the seat of his trousers. "It happens", Lomachenko said.

"My father told me, "you need to go to the body", Lomachenko said. The intervening rounds before the final one were relatively close.

Lomachenko said he got too comfortable in the sixth - and that led to Linares knocking him down.

"He didn't surprise me as I thought he was going to surprise me", said Linares.

'The fight was getting interesting.

Real Madrid's Zidane elaborates on Ronaldo ankle injury
Real Madrid had the chance of signing the then 16-year-old 12 years ago but decided against paying just 60 thousand euros for him. Neither side could get a victor , meaning that Barcelona are only three games away from going the entire La Liga season unbeaten.

But the 11-1 man, known as Hi-Tech, pulled himself from the canvas and, four rounds later, dispatched a ideal liver shot to draw the bout to a close. I wanted to continue. They heyday of the 80's and 90's are long gone, but the fight game keeps chugging.

There were two high-profile title fights in MMA tonight when Amanda Nunes stopped Raquel Pennington in the UFC 224 main event and Ryan Bader ran through King Mo in just 15 seconds at Bellator 199, but WBO featherweight boxing champion Vasyl Lomachenko almost stole the show himself.

The showdown has had fans licking their lips since it was first made and now both men are finally set meet this weekend, with Venezuelan hotshot Linares promising to silence Lomachenko in a not to be forgotten clash. Linares landed the shot of the round with a right hand as Lomachnko was coming forward, timing the head movement of Vasyl to hit his straight down the pipe.

Suddenly the cheers of "Loma!"

By the eighth round he'd opened a cut over Linares' left eye, and he was remorseless in targeting the vulnerable spot.

A short, sharp body shot caught Linares perfectly under the rib cage late in the 10th round, leaving the 32-year-old on bended knee before he bravely attempted to beat the count. Lomachenko stood up to him and showed deep-down guts to knock him out. He also found the target with a left and a right, but was unable to follow up.

It was a left hook to the ribs that crumpled Linares at 2:08 of the 10th round. The vulnerability exposed by Linares, who make no mistake is a beast, should encourage the likes of WBC champ Mikey Garcia in particular who at 135lbs is a huge puncher with a very sharp grasp of the fundamentals. We don't know if Lomachenko can land a big punch but I think it will go the distance.
