UFC 224 Odds: Nunes vs. Pennington Betting Breakdown

All of Amanda Nunes' wins in her homeland have ended early, but challenger Raquel Pennington has a history of going the distance.

The event also features a middleweight bout between contenders Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza and Kelvin Gastelum, with the victor likely to move into world title contention later this year.

In her first title defense, Nunes beat a returning Ronda Rousey by TKO 48 seconds into the first round in the main event of UFC 207 on December 30, 2016.

That's because it is a strikingly similar build-up to the Ronda Rousey fight at the end of 2016 that saw Nunes crush the returning American and effectively end her MMA career.

Nunes (15-4) is now on a six fight win streak, which includes two submissions and two TKO's. If it not for the fact that Nunes and Pennington are pretty close friends, Pennington could have been in harm's way even more than she already was. Having said that, Nunes is a tremendous fighter and if she can perform at the level we know she can, I expect her to retain the title at home.

Pennington (9-5) is on a four fight win streak, but has only one finish in those four fights.

So why are there no out gay male fighters in the UFC?

This is the second fight in the UFC for Dern who is a BJJ black belt. Pennington hasn't lost since a decision loss to former bantamweight champion Holly Holm at UFC 184 in February 2015. Both fighters made weight at 135 pounds.

Hamilton was fastest in the second free practice session and rounded off a satisfactory Friday for the Silver Arrows. Bottas himself did not complete a simulation on the soft tyre, focussing on the medium compound Pirelli's instead.

Fast forward to this weekend in her native Brazil and Nunes will put her crown on the line against Raquel Pennington.

And while the shadow of Cris Cyborg looms large, the Brazilian will need to be at her best to see off Pennington before talk of facing her fellow champion can go any further. Gastelum has great striking but has shown that he has a weakness on the mat.

"It's a celebration all-around for the gay community", says former UFC contender Hardy. As good as Gastelum can be, people are quick to forget that he had no answer for Chris Weidman's ground game and was submitted in the second round.

The biggest fight locally Saturday is between two Brazilian legends and former light heavyweight champions in Vitor Belfort and Lyoto Machida. In fact, many believe "The Dragon" was gifted a decision win over Eryk Anders in his last bout.

After Saturday night's fight, could Pennington be the next MMA athlete headed to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando?

Belfort is still unsafe, but only for the first few minutes of the fight.
