Right-To-Die Advocate David Goodall Ends Life Listening To 'Ode To Joy'

"Once you open the door, then the campaign becomes to kick it open as far as you can, and it shows that opponents in Australia who've been fighting to prevent the legalization of assisted suicide and euthanasia are right on target when they say that this will begin to expand in very short order", he added.

The British-born scientist, described by Exit International as its first member, said this week that he had been contemplating the idea of suicide for about 20 years, but only started thinking about it for himself after his quality of life deteriorated over the last year.

His last words before losing consciousness were: 'This is taking an awfully long time.' He died at 12.30pm in Liestal where he took advantage of Swiss assisted-suicide laws.

In his final hours, Professor Goodall enjoyed his favourite dinner: fish and chips and cheesecake.

May Professor David Goodall finally rest in peace.

While increasingly feeble and unable to live as he once did, Goodall is not sick.

He stepped back from full-time employment in 1979, but remained heavily involved in his field of work. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the longtime member of the pro-euthanasia group Exit International talked with reporters about his particular case and why he was choosing to end his long life.

Goodall, 104, told journalists that he "looked forward" to ending his life and regretted not having ended it sooner, though he is not terminally ill. But the practice is frowned upon by many doctors and some others who say it should be reserved for the terminally ill.

Central Intelligence Agency nominee born in Ashland
Committee Chairman Richard Burr (N.C.) spoke for most of his colleagues when he said: "Gina, I have reviewed your record closely". When reporters mentioned that Haspel was sure to get questioned about her offer to withdraw , Manchin told them to stay tuned .

Assisted dying is illegal in Australia. except for in the state of Victoria, which in November 2017 voted to legalize euthanasia in some cases.

Mr Goodall arrived in Basel on Monday after visiting relatives in France, and spent his final full day exploring the Basel University botanic gardens with three of his grandchildren.

"One wants to, at my age, even rather less than my age.to be free to choose death when the death is at an appropriate time".

"He wishes to have no funeral, no remembrance service or ceremony", the group said in a statement. OR has seen many abuses since since its legalization of assisted suicide, such as cases of pills changing hands, either intentionally or unknowingly, with lethal results.

Goodall died with the aide of a barbiturate that was administered intravenously.

In the U.S., assisted suicide is legal in Oregon, Vermont, Washington, California, Colorado, Hawaii and Washington, D.C. In Montana, a court decision is required to resort to this option.

Several countries allow assisted suicide, including Belgium, Canada, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
