The interior Minister of the United Kingdom resigned

Sajid Javid used his first House of Commons appearance since being appointed Home Secretary to put distance between himself and the Prime Minister over the Windrush scandal.

In her resignation letter to May she said: "Since appearing before the select committee, I have reviewed the advice I was given on this issue and become aware of information provided to my office which makes mention of targets".

Mr Javid pledged he will do "whatever it takes" to put right the treatment of Commonwealth citizens, who have been wrongly denied access to benefits and healthcare or threatened with deportation despite living in the United Kingdom for decades.

Some of the Windrush immigrants and their descendants who have called Britain their home for their entire lives were caught out by the government clampdown.

Labour's Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott said: "The change in Home Secretary will mean nothing unless Theresa May's "hostile environment" policy is finally brought to an end".

Mrs May defended the Government's target-driven approach to illegal immigration, saying it was "important" that officials focused on the need to remove those who have no right to be in this country.

Javid said like the Caribbean Windrush generation, his parents came to Britain in the 1960s to help rebuild this country and offer all that they had.

He added: "We are going to have a strategy in place that does something the previous Home Secretary set out last week, about making sure we have an immigration policy that is fair, it treats people with respect and with decency".

It is reported that a politician has held the position of managing Director Deutsche Bank AG, as well as in 2016-2018 was Minister of state for communities and local government.

The main opposition Labour Party accused Rudd of being a "human shield" for May.

The Windrush scandal is also causing anxiety for the 3 million European Union citizens living in Britain who are concerned about their immigration status after the country leaves the EU next March.

Over the weekend, he told the Sunday Telegraph the Windrush scandal felt "very personal".

Hastings and Rye MP Amber Rudd made her first speech from the back benches of Parliament for six years today (Wednesday, May 2).

"It's a process that was begun under previous governments, it's continued, but it's right that we make a big distinction between those that are here legally and those that are illegal".

The views of Mr Javid, the son of an immigrant bus driver, on migration are notably more liberal than those of Mrs May.

Following that Rudd's resignation was announced on Monday as a statement from Downing Street confirmed that the British Prime Minister Theresa May has accepted Rudd's resignation.

Javid, a lukewarm campaigner to stay in the bloc, replaces Amber Rudd, one of the cabinet's most outspoken pro-European members.
